UPTET 2021 – Common Mistakes to avoid while preparing for the exam!

Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Board (UPBEB) conducts Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (UPTET) to recognize the eligibility of the candidates for the position of primary and upper primary level in different schools of Uttar Pradesh. UPTET is a state-level exam held annually.

The candidates aspiring for the upcoming exam should be aware of the important information including exam dates, patterns, syllabus, important books to crack the test in one go. In order to crack this exam, it is required to secure minimum qualifying marks in the UPTET Result. Candidates are advised to start the preparation early and avoid any type of mistake because it may create obstacles in near future. On that note, let’s discuss common mistakes to avoid while preparing for the exam.

Not knowing the Exam Pattern and Strategy

To achieve good results, it is essential for the candidates to be familiar with the exam pattern and the syllabus. Candidates will understand the allotment of marks to every subject, exam format, relevant topics through the syllabus and the exam pattern. 

UPTET consists of a total of 150 questions to be attempted within 2 hours 30 minutes. There are two papers in the exam.

Paper I is for the candidates who want to be a primary teacher (Class 1 to Class 5) whereas Paper II is for those who want to be an upper primary level teacher(Class 6 to Class 8). 

Each paper comprises five-section including Environmental Studies, Mathematics, Language-I, Language-II, Child Development, and Pedagogy, Science/Social Science/Social Studies.

Not having In-depth knowledge of Child Development and Pedagogy

Child Development and Pedagogy are some of the most difficult and the most scoring sections of the test. 

This section contains 30 questions carrying a total of 30 marks. In order to score high in this section, candidates should cover topics like concepts of learning, teaching-learning process, best teaching activities, and so on. They should build a strong grip on this topic to ace the exam.

Not Referring to Relevant Books

Candidates should prepare from the important and relevant books to ace the exam. First of all, candidates are advised to brush up on their basic concepts from the NCERT books at the early stage and then refer to the advanced books such as Arihant, Wiley, Disha, etc to increase the level of their preparation. 

There are several books available for UPTET preparation in the market. Thus, the candidates should select the right one to avoid any last-minute confusion.

They can purchase the books from the market or download them from an authentic website.

Avoiding Mock Tests and Previous Year Question Paper

Practicing questions from mock tests and previous year papers is important to secure good marks in the test. One can get the information about the exam format, types of questions asked, previous year trend, assess the performance, find out weak areas, and the level of the preparation with the help of the mock test and previous year question paper. 

Candidates should attempt at least four mock tests daily to identify the weak areas and the topics that need extra time and preparation.

No Regular Revisions

Candidates must know that the UPTET Syllabus is huge and therefore they are advised to revise the covered topics daily, that they don’t forget anything. 

They can maintain short notes of the theories and mathematical formulas for the last-minute revision to score high in the exam.

Not Staying Updated

Many aspirants commit the common mistake of avoiding the latest information related to the exam because of their careless behavior or professional commitments. 

The candidate should be aware of the current events of the exam including exam pattern, syllabus, exam dates, application dates, admit card release date, or any other latest exam-related information. 

They are advised to check the latest updates regularly and if there are any changes then they can also modify their exam preparation accordingly.
